Blackjack Strategy Check

Apr 11th 2007

There are only two things to remember when playing with perfect/basic strategy. They are extremely important, so pay attention.

The first one is that basic strategy is meant to win you money in the long run. So, if you have started a session by using basic strategy then finish that session by still using basic strategy. Do not deviate from it as it will only lower your advantage and jeopardize your winnings. Going by gut feeling will only ruin your perfect game.

The second suggestion is directly linked to the first. If basic strategy tells you to do something, then do it. Don't hesitate. This is especially true when doubling down. Most players refuse to double down when they should do so. They tend to think that doubling is an unnecessary risk and will be happy just to win the hand. Good hands are not that common and you should make the most when having one.

Blackjack is more a game of skill than luck. Still haven't realized that yet? Well, when playing Blackjack you have control of the game. You don't just throw a dice and hope your number comes up. You actually make decisions that influence the outcome of the game, and even use the rules of the game in your favor. Making a good decision increases your advantage over the house, but making a bad one means that you lose that advantage.

Blackjack is one of the few card games that even comes close to even odds. Play with a perfect strategy and you will be faced with a house advantage of only 0.5%. But if you go by gut feeling alone you will face a house advantage as high as 5%.
