Skill plays an important part in Blackjack. If you really want to influence the outcome of the game, then improve your Blackjack skill; The true goal of the game is to beat the dealer. A lousy card total of 5 can beat the dealer if he busts. But a 21 will not win if the dealer also has 21. You can't win all the time. Even if you are an ace player, you use a perfect strategy and you count cards, you just can't win all the time. Remember this as it will keep you focused and on top of your game. You can get the house advantage to as low as 1% just by using basic strategy. You don't even have to count cards. Playing by gut instinct will only lower your edge. The house advantage in this case can be as high as 6%. Statistically it is never a good idea to take insurance. If you can read the dealer, or if you can count cards and are aware of his chances of getting a Blackjack, then give it a shot. If not, never take insurance. Walk away if you keep losing. Set a limit for losing and walk away if you reach it. Also, if you have a winning streak remember that it can't last forever. It's better to walk away in profit than regret it later.
