Blackjack Cards

Do not think that a deck of blackjack cards have something special or different because its not true. They looks exactly the same as any other regular deck. The difference stays in how they are used. Casinos rules state that a deck of card must be replaced often in order to protect themselves and how often they must be replaced depends on the amount of experience the dealer has, how many decks are being used and whether or not the decks are used in shoe games, the betting limit at the table, and suspicious circumstances.

Break-in dealers

Because of the nervous sweating in normal limit play, the cardboard is softened and thus, easier to botch. Also, due to their lack of experience in the casino environment, break-in dealers are also more prone to making mistakes requiring that the deck be replaced.

Number of decks

In blackjack games played with only one deck, this is changed at every hour, in a two deck game at every two hours and in a shoe game the decks are changed when a new dealer comes to handle the game.

Betting Limit

Seasoned dealers usually handle high limit play, the decks may need to be replaced more often than the usual because of the extra wear and tear on the cards as more hands are played every hour.

Suspicious circumstances

Even for a small doubt that a player is cheating the dealer may ask to replace the cards. That is only to protect the casino against any possible fraud.
