Betting Systems that Maximize Your Profits

Mar 29th 2007

No matter of the house edge a way to improve your play, is to know how to manage your money. So knowing a good betting system you can not only become better in your play, but you can also maximize your profits. There are a large number of such systems but I'll only mention the ones I consider to be the best.

Martingale betting system

When using this betting system you start with an initial fix bet and double your bet every time you lose. Since you cant lose forever until you finish your bankroll, when you finally win your wager will come ahead of the house recovering all previous lost bets. Then you start all over again with your initial bet. For example, if the gambler makes his standard bet, say 5$ and with every lost he will double his bet. 5$ bet, lose, 10$ bet, lose, 20$ bet, lose, 40$, lose and so on. After a win the gambler drop back his bet to 5$. All bets are reclaimed when you win a hand. However, this system is not flawless: you need a very large bankroll to use it and casinos have wager limits so you can not increase your bets indefinitely.

Progressive betting system

For this system you need to tart with an initial fix bet and each time you win you will increase the current bet by that initial one. Every time you lose you will bet the current amount minus the initial one. As long as you are winning you will continue to raise your bets and when you start losing you will bet the same bets but in a descending order. For example: you set your minimum at 5$ and the maximum bet at 15$. First you bet 5$ and if you win that hand than you bet 15$. You will continue betting 15$ until you lose. If you lose, you get back to your minimum bet of 5$. This is a basic system, but yet progressive.

Card counting betting system

Card counting betting system means that you keep track of the played cards by assigning a tag to each one of them. There are three different tags: -1 (10, J, Q, K, Ace), 0 (7, 8, 0) and +1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6). After the shuffle you start adding the tags of each card from every single hand dealt (your starting count is 0). You will modify your bet only when the count reaches a certain level (different systems have different levels). Generally, you should maximize your bets when the count is positive and minimize them when the count is negative. This is a very rudimentary form of card counting that can be tried by the casual player, if you happen to have a casino around that doesn't mind.
