Surrender

Surrender basically means that the player is allowed to give up the first two cards that he is dealt. But choosing to surrender will cost you half your initial wager. When playing in any land based casino or online casino you must know that there are three types of surrender. Although there are some differenced between them, they all follow the same basic principles.

The option to surrender is either ignored or used far too often by most players. The only explanation is that they do not understand the idea behind surrender and do not know when it is advisable to surrender. First of all you must make sure that the house has an advantage larger than 50%. Only then it is a good idea to surrender and give up 50% of your wager.

Makes sense, doesn't it. You would think so, but some players still don't get it and will give up on any hand that doesn't have an obvious chance of winning. They surrender far too often and that will lead to only one thing. Instead of using this option to improve their odds and increase their winnings they turn it into an easy way for the house to win money. They will burn through their bankroll very soon and not even play a proper hand. They waste money instead of saving money. After all that is what surrender and especially early surrender are supposed to do.

Other forms of surrender besides early surrender include "late surrender" and "Asian surrender". These forms of surrender will not give you a significant advantage when used in combination with basic strategy. But if you are a skilled card reader they can improve your odds.

Not many casinos offer the surrender option. They would rather have you play all the hands even if the house has an advantage higher than 50%. After all, it's better for the house if you lose your entire wager and not just half of it. The truth is that surrendering when it is advisable will have a good impact on your bankroll. You will stabilize it and flatten the fluctuations produced by having to play all the hands until you either win or most likely lose.

Most casinos do not offer surrender and those that do offer it do not make any mention of it. It is as if they do not want us to know. So if you do not see the surrender option next to the other rules just ask the dealer. You will then know for sure, but most importantly know when to use this option if the house allows it.
